'One of the most disabling consequences of executive problems are that they 'blind' the individual to their problems. They are therefore unable to monitor or correct their own actions and they have difficulty accepting and benefiting from rehabilitation'.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This one day interactive workshop is suitable for professionals working with people who have neurological problems. The course will help you to improve your understanding of executive issues following brain injury.

It will also improve your skills at practical and functional assessment and treatment of executive problems following brain injury.

INTRODUCTION AND MODELS 10.00am
Understanding executive problems. The Brannagan model - highly practical for understanding executive problems following brain injury. The Stuss model which shows how executive problems link into all other areas of function.

COFFEE 11.00am

ASSESSMENT OF EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS 11.30am
Practical methods of assessing difficulties in executive functions. The emphasis is on assessment methods that allow you to identify, describe and quantify real life executive break downs.

LUNCH 12.30pm

TREATMENT OF EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS 1.30pm
Group work using a case study which illustrates a typical range of executive problems. Feedback.

TEA 2.30pm

TREATMENT (CONTINUED) 3.00pm
The 4 methods of treatment are discussed in detail, with plenty of examples of what you can do to help patients/clients move forward with their executive difficulties.
