COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This one day interactive workshop is suitable for people working with adults who have sustained a mild brain injury.

 

This course examines the issues around mild traumatic brain injury and presents a positive approach to treatment designed to help the individual develop a new sense of self.



AIMS:

  • To extend skills and knowledge about mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI)
  • To develop understanding of the causes of mTBI
  • To develop understanding of some of the controversies surrounding mTBI
  • To explore approaches to assessment
  • To provide an overview of an evidence based practical approach to treatment based on positive psychology principles

INTRODUCTION & DEFINITIONS 10:00am
What is mTBI? History of mTBI. Is it really a problem?

 

Coffee 11:00am

 

ASSESSMENT ISSUES 11:30am 
Diagnosis - should we? What can we most usefully do? Who can help? How and why symptoms develop. Is mTBI really a mental health problem? Useful models to guide us

Lunch 12:30pm

 

TREATMENT 1:30pm 
Who can do the treatment? Presentation of a practical in depth evidence based model of treatment

 

Coffee 2:30pm 

 

TREATMENT (Continued) 3:00pm 
Continuation of the model of treatment. Reflective practice
